Unlike many other types of cancer, bone cancer prognosis is not alarming. However, your chance of surviving or healing depends on many factors: your general health, type of bone cancer, size of the tumor, and organs affected if the cancer has spread.
In general, the overall 5-year relative bone cancer survival rate is about 70 percent. This statistic however, varies by sex and race:
- Caucasian women reach the highest rate, 72.1%
- African-American men come in second place with a percentage of 72.1
- African-American women have a 68.4% survival rate
- And Caucasian men have the lowest survival rate, 67.5%.
