Reduce Your Prostate Cancer Risk by Having More Sex

The more sex a man has the more he decreases his risk of developing prostate cancer, according to results of a new study published in the Journal of Cancer Epidemiology.

When it comes to pleasure, sex is considered as number one by profane as well as spiritual people. But it seems the act has more benefits than sweetness. Cancer prevention through sexual intercourse seems to be confirmed by a recent study.  The more women a man has sexually known in his life would make him to have less risk of being affected by prostate cancer. However, it is the reverse for homosexual men; their risk increases.

During a recent study, some researchers from the University of Montreal analyzed medical data and sexual behavior of 3,200 men, fifty percent of them was diagnosed with prostate cancer between 2005 and 2009. The researchers questioned each man about their lifestyle such as diet, sexual activity, sexual orientation (homosexuality or heterosexuality), medical history, and the list goes on.

It was surprising to discover that men who have known sexually more than 20 women in their life have their risk of developing prostate cancer reduced by 28%, and those who suffer from a type of aggressive cancer decreases by 19% compared to men who have known only one partner. It seems, unlike what most of us think, regular sexual intercourse is not only good for pleasure but it has also many health benefits as well.

One of the researchers, Marie-Élise Parent, a specialist researcher on prostate cancer at the School of public Health at the University of Montreal, commented that “It is possible that having had multiple sexual partners will result in a greater frequency of ejaculation, whose protective effect against prostate cancer has been previously observed in scientific studies”. She continued to say that”The underlying mechanism of this protective effect lie particularly in the reduction of the concentration of carcinogens in the prostatic fluid”. That is, the advantage is not from multiple partners but from regular safe sexual activity.

Homosexuals have an increase Risk

In contrast, homosexual men who have more than 20 male partners in their life experienced a double risk to suffer from prostate cancer compared to those who have not practiced any sexual activity with men.”  We can issue a highly speculative hypothesis to try to explain this association. It could be that greater exposure to STI increases the risk of developing this cancer, or the fact that anal penetration produces injury to the prostate gland, “says researcher

Abstinence Does not help

While most religious group preach abstinence, it seems it’s not healthy at adulthood, according to the study . The results of this study also reveal that men who reported never having had sex have almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than those who have had regular sex.

Prostate cancer is responsible for 15% of male cancers in developed countries (about 4% in developing countries), which makes it the second leading cause of cancer death in the USA, coming right behind lung cancer which is accounts for about 27% of all cancer deaths. It is crucial to take necessary steps to prevent it before it’s too late.

However, it is important to understand that the results of the study does not encourage any man to engage in a life of debauchery, trying to prevent prostate cancer by sleeping with multiple women as a therapy or prostate cancer prevention method. The benefits come from regular safe sex, not in practicing sex with multiple partners in it. Enjoying your sex life with your spouse regularly will provide the same benefits.
